Bhubaneswar, Feb 10: A Bhubaneswar-Mumbai IndiGo flight (6E 552) Tuesday made an emergency landing at Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) after a middle-aged passenger complained of difficulty in breathing.
According to airports authority of India (AAI), the Bhubaneswar-Mumbai flight took off at 12.55pm but its pilot sought permission for landing at BPIA an hour after it took off from Bhubaneswar.
The pilot contacted BPIA air traffic control tower at 1.30pm and landed at city airport at 2.20pm.
Sources said the IndiGo crew mid-air had informed an onboard doctor, who was also going to Mumbai, about the situation who later urged the pilot to return to Bhubaneswar as the ailing passenger required medical attention immediately.
As soon as the flight landed at the airport, the passenger was rushed to a local hospital with four of his relatives. Sources said the passenger belongs to Orissa.
The flight, which was supposed to reach Mumbai at 3.20pm, got delayed by over an hour because of the emergency.
When contacted, IndiGo staff at BPIA refused to comment on the issue.
