Konark, June 5: A yagna mandap and a garage constructed by encroaching upon the land of revenue department were demolished on the third day of the demolition drive at Bana Baba Ashram at Balidokan here Sunday.
The tehsil administration began the drive at Darshanbanta at 10 am and demolished a yagna mandap and a garage constructed on 31 decimals of land of the revenue department under Chitreswari revenue division in Kakatpur tehsil.
The drive was led by Kakatpur tehsildar Prachi Mohapatra, additional tehsildar Akshay Kumar Patnaik, revenue inspector Laxmi Narayan Patra and assistant revenue inspector Satyabadi Chinera.
Forest department officials led by assistant conservator of forest Bijay Kumar Patnaik razed 50 per cent of the building of the main ashram of the godman constructed on forest land. Nimapara sub-divisional police officer Aruna Kumar Jena, Konark police station inspector-in-charge Arun Tripathy, ASI Prafulla Kumar Mallick and ASI Banambar Nayak were present during the demolition drive. Six platoons of police were deployed in the area to maintain law and order.
“A yagna mandap and a garage constructed on the land of revenue department were demolished during the drive,” said Mohapatra.
“About 50 per cent of buildings and a godown on the premises of the main ashram of Bana Baba were demolished so far. We will clear all the buildings constructed on the forest land by Monday evening,” said assistant conservator of forest Bijay Kumar Paptnaik.
