Pipli, July 11: The body of an engineering student, who purportedly died in a road mishap recently, has been exhumed and sent for a post-mortem after his family termed the incident a ‘murder’.
Cuttack Sadar police have registered a murder case and begun investigation into the incident after a complaint was lodged by the victim’s family.
Police said victim Muhammed Naimuddin of Narasinghpur under Pipli police limits was pursuing a degree course in engineering in Bhubaneswar. Naimuddin had reportedly met with an accident at Bhanapur on Bhubaneswar-Cuttack road June 8 and was admitted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack by his classmates.
Naimuddin had sustained severe head injuries and slept into coma. He was later shifted to the AMRI hospital in Bhubaneswar. Naimuddin’s family came to know about the incident from his friend Muhhamed Istat Khan. The victim had succumbed to his injuries July 4 and his body was buried at his native village the next day, police said.
According to police, Naimuddin’s father Muhammed Nizamuddin later learnt that his son was admitted to the casualty ward of SCB and shifted to the hospital after the fast aid. Nizamuddin, however, could not trace the details about the victim’s treatment as the records were missing. He termed it as a case of murder and lodged a complaint with Cuttack Sadar police in this regard.
“Naimuddin along with his friends had a dinner at a roadside eatery at Bhanapur June 18. His bike was found abandoned near the eatery. However, no complaint was registered in this regard. We have registered a murder case and exhumed the body after his family lodged a complaint.
