Anandapur: Climate change has become a major issue and it is time to reflect deeply on its consequences, environmentalist Trilochan Sahoo said. Speaking at the inaugural Odisha Climate Conclave held at Fakirpur City School under the Anandapur Municipality limits in Keonjhar district, Sahoo pledged his dedication to protecting both nature and culture.
Highlighting his initiatives, Sahoo spoke about the “Mu Gachha Kahuchi” campaign that encourages people to plant and care for at least one tree on their birthdays, the “Gaon Pain Dine” programme that urges villagers to dedicate at least one day for community and greenery, and the “Baitarani Cleanup Drive.” Sahoo said these campaigns have strengthened his identity and that receiving the 2024 Dharitri Climate Award has brought him recognition at both the state and national levels.
“In words we often say we care about the environment, but in reality, we do not act with the same concern,” Sahoo said. “That is why I started this conclave — to create awareness among students, the youth and people from all walks of life about the importance of environmental protection and the impact of climate change.”

He said efforts will be made to spread progressive lessons on environmental protection to every rural area of the state. “Obstacles and criticism are always there, but we must move forward to do something for society, our land and the environment,” he added, noting the support he has always received from family, friends, well-wishers and teachers.
