Bhubaneswar: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the state Crime Branch Thursday arrested the director and managing director (MD) of M/s Ascend Creation Private Limited, a realty firm, in connection with a land fraud in 2012.
“The firm’s director Niranjan Pati (55) and MD Chandra Sekhar Pati (51) have been taken into custody on the basis of a case (3/19) registered against them under Sections 420 and 406 of IPC apart from Section 6 of the OPID Act following a complaint lodged by Tarini Ranjan Sahoo of Laxmisagar area,” a senior EOW official said confirming the arrests.
According to the case details, the executive duo duped Sahoo of Rs 8.40 lakh on the pretext of providing a 4,000 sq ft plot under Ghangapatna mouza in the state capital in 2012.
“Although the accused had no absolute right over the property, they got the land registered in the name of Debasis Ranjan Sahoo, the complainant’s son, on the basis of fabricated documents. The duo also used forged documents to obtain land deed for Debasis,” the official said quoting the police compliant.
In course of the investigation, the EOW sleuths also claimed to have found that the firm had duped a few other gullible persons in a similar fashion.
