Bhubaneswar, Jan 13: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Orissa Crime Branch (CB) arrested the proprietor of M/s Santuka Industries in Jagatpur, Cuttack for allegedly cheating a person to the tune of `37.5 lakh using forged documents.
The accused, identified as Sajjan Kumar Santuka, was forwarded to a designated court in Cuttack, Tuesday.
Crime branch DIG Sanjay Kumar said EOW started investigating the case after Samir Ranjan Mohanty, divisional head of IDCO in Cuttack, lodged a complaint with it August 11, 2014.
The IDCO official, in his complaint, alleged that Santuka had executed an agreement with Kishorilal Chhapolia to buy and transfer plot No.B/4 at Industrial Estate in Jagatpur after paying `18 lakh.
“As per the terms of the agreement, Chhapolia would apply to IDCO for transfer of the plot in favour of Santuka after clearing the dues. However, Santuka in a quid pro quo with some other persons and a few IDCO officials forged the documents and transferred the property in his name,” the DIG added.
‘‘He thus cheated Chhapolia and IDCO officials to grab the industrial property, resulting in financial loss to Chhapolia as well as IDCO authorities. Investigation is on to ascertain the involvement of others, including IDCO officials, in the fraud,” the DIG said.
