Bhubaneswar, June 30: A four-day-long international art and photography exhibition titled ‘Shraddhanjali’, organised by the Artists’ Association of Orissa, commenced at Lalit Kala Akademi Regional Centre here Tuesday.
The exhibition is being organised in memory of Prof Byomakesh Mohanty, noted painter and ex-principal of BK College of Art and Craft, who is known for his distinctive painting style.
Around 78 paintings, sculptures and photographs of noted artists from countries like Sri Lanka, Nepal, Pakistan, Germany, Afghanistan, China, Bangladesh and from across the country are on display at the exhibition. IMFA director Paramita Mohapatra attended the inauguration of the exhibition. “A fine collection from different parts of the country is on display. The feelings of the artist are very much visible in all the paintings, photographs and sculptures. In the pursuit of art, money can be a problem but the dedication of an artist towards his art always results in a masterpiece,” Mohapatra said.
Biju Patnaik International Airport director Sharad Kumar was also present. “My job is such that I hardly get an opportunity to admire the beauty of nature. The exhibition is beautiful. All paintings are of top class. The style, colour combination and the brush strokes, everything is spectacular,” Kumar said.
“This is the fifth time we’ve organised the exhibition in memory of Prof Mohanty. The language of a painter is brush and colour, so what better way of paying a tribute to him than dedicating a painting
exhibition to him. It is a tribute to him from his students and friends,” said Chintamani Biswal, a painter and member of the association.
