Nilagiri: Two persons including a woman were arrested from Santaragadia area under Nilagiri sub-division in Balasore district for circulating fake currency notes, Balasore SP Sagarika Nath said in a press conference at Nilagiri police station, Friday.
The accused Purnachandra Nayak of Ghudadian village under this police limits was arrested after he purchased liquor worth Rs3,000 from a liquor shop last Tuesday in exchange for six notes of Rs500 denomination.
Acting on the shopkeeper’s complaint police detained Purnachandra for enquiry. During the investigation, police seized fake notes worth Rs32,700 and two mobile phones from the house of the accused.
Police seized 38 counterfeit notes of Rs500 denomination, 45 notes of Rs200 denomination and 47 notes of Rs100 denomination from the possession of the accused.
Nayak disclosed the involvement of a woman Binapani Mukhi (50) resulting in her arrest from a rented house at Soro.
