Koraput: Family members of a migrant labourer who has been missing in Andhra Pradesh for the last one and a half years sought the intervention of the district administration to trace him, Friday.
According to reports, Surya Jani, who hails from Rengalguda village under Borigumma block of Koraput district, along with fellow villagers had gone to the neighbouring state in search of job in 2016.
However, they were allegedly forced to work under extreme pressure without any pay. Fed up, other persons, who had gone with Jani returned back after working for a few months. However, there has been no trace of Jani since then.
When Jani’s wife Asumati inquired about the whereabouts of her husband, the fellow labourers said he had left for home before them.
Family members have been trying to contact him over phone, but in vain. Earlier, the anxious family had then moved the B Singhpur police station and filed a written complaint in this regard.
Although three months have passed since the lodging of the complaint, no action has been taken to trace the missing Jani, it was alleged.
With no action from the police, the family Friday sought the intervention of the labour department to trace the missing worker. When contacted, district labour officer said no such case has been reported to them. Action will be taken accordingly if a complaint is registered in this regard.
Meanwhile, the residents have urged the administration to bring Jani back to the village.
