Farmer scripts success with drip irrigation

Champua: Pramod, a youth of Icchinda in Badanai panchayat of this block in Keonjhar district, made use of drip irrigation and has become a successful farmer.

The success he scripted in multi-crop farming has become an example to others.

Pramod showed others how to make economical use of water while farming and avoid wastage.

Initially, Pramod was inclined towards going for a government job, but his efforts did not succeed.

After completing Plus II he tried jobs in the private sector, but could not earn enough to run his family.

Meanwhile, a friend asked him to take up farming. He received training from an NGO at Harichandanpur and he started cultivating vegetables on his farm.

Pramod grew brinjals, green peas and cabbages. Initially, the harvest was not enough to meet the cost of his labour and inputs.

Later, he consulted experts and used the irrigation and farming methods they suggested. Gradually vegetable farming yielded him profits. Now with the earnings from his farm he is managing his family well.
