Bhograi: In yet another instance of rural talents making it to the top despite adverse conditions, Abhilipsa Patra of Balasore district recently spellbound music lovers across the state with her soulful rendition.
Hailing from Barbatia village in this block, which is known as a store house of art, culture and literature, Abhilipsa won many a heart after being adjudged the best singer in Surabhi, a state-level singing competition conducted by the school and mass education department.
The Class IX student of Barabatia High School was chosen best among 30 competitors from 30 districts of the state.
While her father Barendra Patra is a farmer, mother Amita Patra is a housewife.
Before winning at Surabhi, Abhilipsa came out winner in a singing contest at Bhograi Utsav, Jaleswar Simanta Mahotsav and other competitions.
The budding singer gives credit to her guru Debabrata Das for whatever little she has achieved so far in her career.
Besides, she says the encouragement of her parents and other family members has drawn her towards the world of music.
Apart from practicing music for three hours a day, she also receives training in Madanmohan Sangeeta Mahavidyalaya at Baunsadiha to hone her skills. She considers renowned singer of Orissa Kumar Bapi her idol, said Abhilipsa.
Even as she has now gained a bit of popularity and become a sensation of sorts in the district, Abhilipsa concentrates on her studies.
“I am trying to do well in my studies as well as in the field of music,” she said.
If nourished well, she aims to bring laurels for the state, Abhilipsa said. PNN
