Balasore: Thousands of farmers in Buanla panchayat under Balasore block are facing mounting problems in irrigating their land since March 12 when a part of the river bank of Budhabalanga caved in along with a lift irrigation point.
“Though the farmers had apprised the junior engineer of the lift irrigation department of the damage to the LI point March 13, no steps have been taken to restore the point,” said pani panchayt president Harinaryan Das.
Over 100 acres of land are irrigated by the LI point in Sindia and Kudia village. The farmers say that as they are growing vegetables now, they badly need water failing which the plants will die.
Contacted, executive engineer of the lift irrigation department Srinibash Nayak said that he not received any complaint in this regard and the pani pachayat has been tasked with the repair and maintenance of the LI point.
“If there is a any major damage, the lift irrigation department is to assess the damage and report it to the state government,” Nayak clarified.
He said if it is a major damage he will make efforts for its restoration. PNN
