Bhubaneswar: Expressing serious concern over slow progress in expenditure of funds at the grassroots, the state government has asked all Collectors and Project Directors of District Rural Development Agencies (PD DRDAs) to properly monitor and supervise the development works at Gram Panchayat (GP) level.
Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water Secretary DK Singh, in a letter to these officials earlier this week, has advised them to hold monthly review meetings on the progress of Gram Panchayat Development Plan (GPDP) works and expenditure involved therein.
He said that despite instructions, it has been observed that the instruction is not being strictly adhered to at block level and district level.
“Once again it is instructed that the BDOs shall take review of works of all the GPs at the Block level meeting on 1st Tuesday of the month positively and also, the DPOs shall take review on next Friday with the GPEOs of the Blocks after the review taken by the Block. The proceedings of the review meeting shall be communicated to the Project Director, DRDAs and to the Government latest by 15th of the month unfailingly,” Singh said.
He further said, “The best performance of a GP or any innovative achievement by the GP shall find place in the proceedings of the monthly review meeting at District level.”
Besides, ahead of summer and heat condition, which is assumed to set little earlier, this year, the secretary has also asked the collectors to ensure preventive check and maintenance of tube wells/piped water supply are conducted and completed on war footing by end of this month.
“The mobile van with the team shall move around regularly to report on dysfunctional tube wells/PWSs. Spare parts shall be in readiness with the block to address immediate remedial measures,” the government instructed while asking them to send weekly reports in this regard.
