Sundargarh: In a case of honour killing, a man reportedly murdered his daughter’s boyfriend at Bejidihi under Dharuadihi police limits in this district Tuesday night. His 25-year-old daughter was also critically injured in the attack.
The deceased was identified as Balaram Budala (30). He and the daughter of Mohan Kishan of Bejidihi village were in love. According to reports, both of them used to stay away from their families for four to five days. However, when Mohan asked Balaram to marry his daughter, the latter reportedly refused to do so.
The couple went out Tuesday and when they returned Mohan once again asked Balaram to marry the girl. However, Balaram reportedly refused the request. An infuriated Mohan picked up a wooden plank and attacked both of them.
Locals rushed both to the district headquarters hospital. Balaram succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment, while the girl is under treatment.
Balaram’s father Denga Budala lodged a complaint with Dharuadihi police Wednesday. Acting on his complaint, the police reached seized the body, sent it for post-mortem and launched an investigation.
“We have seized the wooden plank and a door latch, used in crime. The accused is absconding,” a police officer said.
