Barang: A 16-year-old female bear named Milli died at Nandankanan Zoological Park (NZP) here Thursday. NZP sources said the bear was suffering from tuberculosis for several days.
Milli was born to Rameiya and Sabitri at the zoo October 23, 2001. Milli was the main attraction at the safari in the zoo, said a NZP official.
NZP deputy director Jayanta Kumar Das said the female bear took ill a few days ago. The zoo authorities had kept her in a special cell and administered doses of multivitamin and liver tonic. “Veterinarians later diagnosed the bear with tuberculosis,” Das said.
With the death of Milli, the number of bear at NZP came down to 16 – 11 male and five female bears, Das added.
