Barang: A female Nilgai died at Nandankanan Zoological Park (NZP) here Thursday.
NZP sources said the Nilgai, aged around 18 years, was found unwell at Enclosure No. 64 Wednesday. On being informed, the range officer of NZP and veterinarians reached the spot and attended to the herbivore.
However, the Asian antelope did not respond to the treatment and died Thursday afternoon, NZP sources said. With the death of the Nilgai, the number of the species at NZP came down to 21. Now, the zoo has four male and 15 female Nilgais while the authorities are yet to determine the gender of two calves.
