Cuttack: The special task force (STF) of Crime Branch and Jagatpur police produced suspected terrorist of al Qaeda in Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) Abdur Rehman in Salipur judicial magistrate first class court Monday under tight security.
The STF had filed its preliminary charge sheet against Rehman in the JMFC court December 28 last year. The STF had charged Rehman with offences like treason, indulging in illegal activities, hatching conspiracy against the country, terror training and funding. “The final charge sheet will be filed in the court as per the law,” CB director general Bijay Kumar Sharma said.
Rehman was brought from Tihar jail in Delhi and produced in the JMFC court, which said that the case would be transferred to district and sessions court during May 29 hearing.
Sources said Rehman had been providing terrorist training to youths clandestinely. Several cases were filed against him at Jagatpur police station. Later, the CB inquired into the allegations and found that Rehman received money in his bank account from many countries to push the youths into terrorism. He had set up a Madrassa at Bilaterua in Tangi to indoctrinate the youths. He was also aiming to set up several Madrassas at various locations in the city to make his plan successful.
The money was transferred to his account from Saudi Arab and London. After finding his links with al Qaeda, Delhi police with the help of Commissionerate police had arrested him in a joint operation from Paschimakaccha village in Jagatpur police limits December 15, 2015. Several CDs, books, cell phones, passports and tabloids and documents were seized from him.
Apart from Orissa, Rehman was also in charge of many al Qaeda outfits in Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Bihar.
After verifying his call details, the CB found his links with Saudi Arab, Pakistan, London and Dubai.
