Fire in Bhubaneswar SBI branch destroys computers, important documents

Bhubaneswar:  A fire broke out in the record room of the State Bank of India (SBI) branch in Bapuji Nagar here in the early hours of Saturday.  The fire destroyed at least three computers besides important documents. However, there was no casualty.

Locals spotted smoke billowing from the room on the third floor of the building that houses the bank and informed the fire department and bank officials.

Two fire tenders and a dozen firemen took about an hour to douse the flames. Some bank officials also arrived to take stock of the situation.

Sources said important documents like Aadhar cards, customer records and cheques were destroyed in the fire.

While the exact cause of the mishap is yet to be ascertained, electrical short circuit is the preliminary suspect.
