Anandapur: Unable to bear alleged harassment by an officer, an employee of the Ghasipura fire station reportedly threatened to commit suicide by climbing atop the three-storied office building at Shalapada under Anandapur Municipality in Kendujhar district Saturday.
The employee, Hemananda Dehuri, was rescued after his colleagues persuaded him to come down, sources said.
The incident has sparked widespread discussion in the area.
According to the allegations, Hemananda had been subjected to harsh remarks, verbal abuse, excessive workload and humiliation by his superior, Surya Hembram.
He was also allegedly not granted leave on time and was subjected to mental pressure on several occasions.
Unable to cope with the alleged harassment, Hemananda climbed to the roof of the three-storied building with an intention to commit suicide, sources said. On being informed, Ghasipura police reached the spot.
With the assistance of fire personnel and colleagues, they managed to safely rescue Hemananda. Hembram denied the harass ment charges against him and said the truth would emerge after an investigation.
Ghasipura police IIC Mitali Madhulita said a complaint had been registered and the actual reason behind the incident would be known after an investigation.
Moreover, Hemananda has warned that if the department fails to take action against the alleged harassment and he does not get justice, he may again be driven to take an extreme step.
