Jharsuguda: Commuters had a harrowing time Thursday after all private passenger buses remained off roads in protest against the firing at a newly-elected general secretary of Jharsuguda bus owners’ association Wednesday.
Sanjay Kar was shot at on the association office premises by the defeated candidate Deepak Sahu after the election results were announced. Kar was first admitted to the district headquarters hospital and later shifted to Burla-based VSS Medical College and Hospital as his condition worsened. As doctors failed to perform an operation on him, Kar was admitted to a Bhubaneswar-based hospital. Police registered three cases and started an investigation. Sniffer dogs and forensic squad were pressed into service. The first complaint was filed by Kar, while the second was lodged by newly-elected treasurer Rajesh Singh and the third by Kar’s manager Suresh Behera. Bus owners sought stringent action against the accused. The incident has triggered tension in the area.
