Pune: Chennai Super Kings (CSK) head coach Stephen Fleming feels that they need to work hard in their adopted home venue (Pune) if they are to be the force to reckon with in the ongoing edition of the IPL.
Back into the tournament after serving a two-year suspension, CSK played just one game in Chennai before the orgainsers decided to shift its remaining home games to Pune in the wake of Cauvery protests and threats to disrupt more fixtures.
“We have to work extra hard to get home advantage. We have learnt a little bit again Saturday and we have only got a day to make sure we try and get the right combination,” Fleming added.
Fleming rued that his players will need time to get used to the Pune pitch. “The biggest thing for us is to get to know the pitch here, it is not Chennai. We picked the side which was Chennai-based so we are learning as much as anyone,” the New Zealander said after CSK lost to Mumbai Indians (MI) here Saturday night.
Commenting on the match against MI, Fleming said that they were probably 10-15 runs short with the bat but created enough and the players hung in pretty well. This was CSK’s second loss in seven matches and first in their adopted home.
“A score of 190 was a possibility, so for them (Mumbai) to bowl well and drag us back to 170 was good cricket. Another 10 runs would have been nice for us,” the former Black Caps skipper added.
However, CSK would be missing the services of Deepak Chahar for a couple of weeks after the pacer pulled a hamstring in their last match.
