Puri: The three-day international film festival on child rights, popularly known as Nano Film Festival, got off to a colourful start with screening of 32 short films on the inaugural day Friday.
Hundreds of children from various educational institutions across the city watched the short films for two hours. Among the films screened are Hindi short films, ‘Ummidon Ki Udaan’, Haq Kanak Kanak, Oriya film ‘Parivartan’ and Swabhiman.
Speaking on the occasion, Orissa State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (OSCPCR) chairperson Kasturi Mohapatra said, “Every child needs to be aware of their rights. When the children become conscious, the country becomes conscious. In this case, we have to play a greater role and create a favourable environment for children so that they could realise their rights,”
“Every child has talent and skills. We have to create the favourable environment where the children can groom themselves,” Mohapatra said.
She further said that, “Nobody has the rights to misbehave with, beat up and abuse the children. However, it is our responsibility to make children aware of their rights.”
The short film festival is being organised by OSCPCR, Childline and the district administration. Attending the event as a guest, block education officer (BEO) Mamata Mishra said, “Childhood is the happiest moment of life. Discipline should be the main objective of the students.”
