Bhubaneswar, Jan 5: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Monday asked all concerned officials to complete pending projects in Puri within the stipulated time for the Nabakalebar scheduled in July.
Reviewing the preparations of the state government, Patnaik asked all officials to expedite the project works and insisted that quality must be ensured in the ongoing works.
The works department officials were advised to complete the road projects by May this year. Most of the road projects assigned to works department have been completed while some more projects are on the verge of completion.
The department has been asked to complete the Mangalaghat bypass road by March and the expansion work of Atharnala road by April.
Likewise, the chief minister asked officials to complete Malatiput-Balukhand road expansion project and Pipili-Konark road project by April. The department was also told to ensure drinking water and toilet facilities across the city. During the meeting, it was decided that shuttle bus services will be launched during the grand festival.
With drinking water facility becoming a concern in the city, it was decided at the meeting that potable water of 58.62 MLD will be in place for 32 lakh tourists during the grand festival. Tube wells and containers will be installed at strategic points to provide fresh drinking water to visitors as well as the locals.
While the state government has planned to build a huge water storage facility in around 600 acres of land, during the meeting it was revealed that water storage facility on a 200 acre land will be set up before Nabakalebar.
To make the pilgrim city open defecation free, the district administration and concerned officials has been asked to earmarked place where makeshift toilets and sewerage system will be installed before Nabakalebar. The CM has asked to complete Sewerage works by April.
Of the targeted 6.6 KM stretch drainage structure in the city while 5.8 KM works have been completed, rest of the works are to be completed by April, sources said.
Moreover, the chief minister has asked to ensure proper accommodation facility for the tourists and pilgrims for the ensuing festival.
