Bhubaneswar, April 9: The state government will complete the process for implementation of the National Food Security Act (NFSA) by the end of September this year, food supplies and consumer welfare secretary Madhusudan Padhi said Thursday.
The task force on NFSA headed by development commissioner UN Behera Thursday held its seventh meeting to take stock of progress in this regard.
“Wednesday was the last day for receiving applications for enrolling in NFSA. We have received around 73 lakh applications, of which 36 forms have been digitised so far. We are digitising around one lakh applications on a daily basis,” Padhi said after attending the meeting.
The government will start distributing acknowledgment letters in the next two days. The letters will be issued April 11, April 21, May 1 and May 16 in four phases.
“We had targeted to complete the process by August and we are on track. But as the Centre has extended the deadline for implementation of the act by another six months, we have kept another month in hand to ensure an error-free execution,” the secretary said.
Beneficiaries who have not enrolled themselves under NFSA can do so between May 25 and July 25 at their block and district headquarters, the food supplies secretary said.
