Kendrapara: The forest personnel of Rajnagar range Monday rescued a 5.8-ft long female Indian python from the cattle shed of Sunil Mandal in Bagapatia village in Gutpi panchayat in Rajnagar block, said ranger Amaresh Nath Pradhan. The village is located on the fringes of the Bhitarkanika National Park.
Ranger Pradhan said the family of Mandal saw the python entering their cattle shed and informed the forester of Satabhaya.
Forest personnel led by the forester of Satabhaya, Navin Mallick, rushed to the spot and managed to rescue the python. The reptile was later released in the Sunei-Rupei forest block, forest sources said.
As the nesting season of snakes is on they generally go for dense forests and mud-walled houses in the forest and nearby areas to lay eggs. The python might have entered the cattle shed to lay eggs.
Last month, forest personnel of Kanika forest range under the Bhitarkanika National Park had rescued a 16-feet long Burmese female python from Bankuala village, near the Dangamala Crocodile Breeding and Research Centre.
The forest personnel had rescued the python from the kitchen door of Dwarika Prasad Behera of Bankuala village. The reptile was later released in the Sapuadiha forests in Bhitarkanika forest block.
