Kataka: A statue of former Odisha Chief Minister Nandini Satpathy was unveiled in Kataka today at Daya Ashram Park near Biju Patnaik Square.
The programme was organised by the Kataka Municipal Corporation. Justice Bimal Prasad Das attended as the chief guest, while MLA Sofia Firdous and Bhubaneswar Mayor Sulochana Das were present as guests of honour and unveiled the statue.
Nandini Satpathy was Odisha’s first woman Chief Minister. She was also a renowned politician and writer. She grew up in Kataka Pithapur and brought recognition to Odisha through her contributions to public life and literature.
Following her death in 2006, efforts had been underway for several years to install her statue in Kataka.
Kataka Mayor Subash Singh, the municipal commissioner, representatives of various political parties, social workers and others were also present at the programme.
