Anandapur: At least four persons were killed and three others critically injured after the vehicle they were travelling crashed into a roadside tree near Bankhidi on Karanjia-Anandapur road Saturday morning.
On getting information about the accident, the police and fire personnel reached the spot and started rescue operation.
The deceased were identified as Chinna Panda, Baikuntha Panda, Laxmipriya Panda and Manorama Tripathy.
The injured persons were rushed to Anandapur sub divisional hospital and later they were shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.
Sources said, the victims, residents of Sainkul and Salabani under Anandapur police limits, were returning home in the ill fated car after attending a wedding function of their relative’s daughter at Khuntapasi village in Thakurmunda area when the mishap occurred.
While the exact reason of the accident has not yet been identified, local people suspected that the driver might have dosed off.
