Koraput/Narayanpatna: Police in Narayanpatna have arrested two brothers for allegedly murdering their elder sibling over a property dispute in Kendumunda village under Tentulipadar panchayat.
The accused have been identified as Karla Huika and Lingu Huika.
Lakshmipur SDPO Manoj Behera said Sunday that the two were taken into custody following an investigation into the incident.
According to police, the victim, Palus Huika, 40, the eldest among four brothers, held ownership of the family property.
The accused had reportedly been in dispute with him over sharing the land.
Palus went to his brother’s house on the evening of March 27 over a financial matter related to borrowed money. An argument ensued, which soon turned violent.
Police said the two younger brothers tied him with a cloth and assaulted him brutally before attacking him with a sharp weapon, leading to his death on the spot.
The victim’s wife, Tulasi, who tried to intervene, was threatened by the accused. She later lodged a written complaint at Narayanpatna police station.
Police registered a case, recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem.
During questioning, the accused confessed to the crime, police said.
Both were produced in court Sunday.
