Free laptops for Plus II scholars in Sept: Minister

Bhubaneswar, July 31: The state government will distribute free laptops to the meritorious Plus II students in September, higher education minister Pradeep Kumar Panigrahy said here Thursday.
The department has decided to distribute 15,000 laptops among the meritorious Plus II students, who have passed out in 2015, under Biju Yuva Shashaktikaran Yojana (BYSY).
“We will distribute the laptops among the students in September and the last year pass-outs will get their laptops in August,” Panigrahy said.
Last year, the department had selected 15,203 meritorious students under the free laptop scheme. However, the department was unable to distribute the laptops so far.
Recently, the department has asked the Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) to send the list of meritorious students of 2015. The department will provide free laptops to top 3,500 Arts, 5,000 Science, 1,500 Commerce and 100 Vocational students under general category. Similarly, 2,500 Arts, 2,000 Science, 500 Commerce and 100 Vocational students under the SC and ST categories have been selected, sources said.
