Bhubaneswar, May 28:  Riding on four brilliant hat-tricks by Premita Bara, Rinki Kujur, Janhabi Pradhan and Jiwan Kishori Toppo, Hockey Gangpur pummeled hapless Hockey Andhra Pradesh (HAP) 18-0 in a Pool-C match of the Vth Hockey India Sub-Junior Women’s National (Division-A) Hockey Championship at Ranchi, Jharkhand, Thursday.

Gangpur was dominant throughout the game and scored nine goals each in both the halves. Premita Bara (24th, 35th, 65th), Rinki Kujur (fourth, 48th, 70th), Janhabi Pradhan (17th, 34th, 62nd) and Jiwan Kishori Toppo (42nd, 51st, 68th) scored hat-tricks. Namrata Jasmin Bara (23rd, 59th) struck a brace, while the rest of the goals were scored by Premanjali Toppo (11th), Sushanti Minz (fifth), Laxmi Ekka (21st) and Nima Bati Singh (61st).

Such was the dominance of the team from Orissa that Andhra players were reduced to mere spectators in the field. They had no clue about the relentless attack of Gangpur players.

In another match of the day, Elima Minz scored five goals including  a hat-trick to help Hockey Orissa thrash Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu 10-0 in a Pool-D match.

Elima scored in the 19th, 25th, 26th, 62nd and 65th minutes respectively. Manju Lakra (52nd), Priyanka Kujur (38th), Priyanka Ekka (48th), Mariamma Kujur (second) and Ashim Kanchan (23rd) struck once each.

Police sports

Sambalpur and Cuttack advanced to the second round of their respective events in the 71st State Level Police Sports Championship, which was inaugurated at the Reserve Police Ground in Sambalpur, Thursday.

In Kabaddi, Sambalpur scripted a convincing 17-9 win against OSP IIIrd Battallion, Koraput in the first round. In handball, Cuttack VIth Battallion thrashed Koraput Ist IR Battallion 23-3.
