Chhatrapur: The ‘Mo School Abhiyan’ received wide acceptance in Ganjam district as over 2,098 schools have joined the project as against 10,000 in the state and received contributions of Rs 2.89 crore from various persons, a report said.
The matter came to the fore at a meeting of the district education officer (DEO) and block education officers (BEOs) presided by the District Collector on the occasion of Children’s Day here Wednesday.
Presiding over the meeting, Collector Vijay Amruta Kulange said cleanliness should be given top priority in the project and he stressed on expansion of the project through various programme. He said 10,000 schools in the state have joined the project launched in 2017 out of which 2,098 schools are from the district. Rs 2.89 crore has been received from benevolent persons for the project.
Kulange called the officials to ensure a complete ban on use of plastic products on the school premises by donating steel water bottles to students purchased with the funds available in the project. Rallies comprising students will be organised in the district to inculcate the habit of cleanliness among people.
The school authorities will collect feedback from students on use of toilets and put up green barricades around school premises instead of construction of compound walls. Each school to have mirrors installed in their premises so that students could make self-appraisal of their cleanliness. Moreover, the schools will have to organise essay-writing and drawing competitions on the subject. Teachers and students of the winning schools will be felicitated, he said.
Commissioner Chakraborty Singh Rathore of Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC), ADM Lakshmikant Sethy, PD Sudam Charan Mandal of town planning unit, district education officer (DEO) Sanatan Panda, Binita Senapati, project coordinator of Sarva Sikshya Abhiyan Narayan Mishra, Asha Mishra of Mo School project and all BEOs were present at the meeting.
