The New Year is knocking on the door and people are already busy selecting gifts. In conversation wih Orissa Post mural artist & gift consultant Jolly Bisoi talked about New Year gift ideas and all about mural gifts. Excerpts:
What is mural artwork?
Mural art is any piece of artwork that is painted or applied directly on wall, stones, boards, clothes, cups, bottles. A distinctive trait of mural painting is that the architectural fundamentals of the given space are harmoniously integrated into the picture. Mural painting has its roots in the primitive instincts of people to ornament their environment and to use wall surfaces as a canvas for expressing ideas.
New Year is around the corner, what gifts can be ideal?
Every gift is an ideal one. It all depends on the person selecting the gift. Nevertheless, the trend of mural art gifts is catching up as it’s much different than the standard gifts. Moreover it is budget-friendly too, so anyone can buy it. One can gift small mural arts or craft paintings as a new year gift.
How much time it takes to make a mural painting?
Depends on the efficiency of the artist, yet i would say it’s approximately 7-8 hours of hard work to complete a painting.
How long you have been practicing this art form?
I began learning in the year 2013 to be precise, but mastering it is a different ball-game altogether, as I had to take care of my family and other chores apart from being an artist.
How would describe the job of a gift consultant?
At times it does become tough as modern clients don’t have the time and energy to go through diverse gift pieces. So it’s my job is to decide on a right gift that is within budget for my clients. Although, in Orissa it’s not so popular, but i would say slowly the fad is catching up.
What’s your message to people who are buying gifts for New Year?
Spend your money wisely, one need not buy something expensive just for the sake of buying. Always consider the person who you want to gift as what he or she loves and accordingly select a gift. There are a number of alternatives available, right from stone to glasses to ceramic.
