Baliguda: A young girl alleged rape by a police constable and staged a sit-in protest at the Baliguda police station, demanding action against him here in Kandhamal district Friday.
In a written complaint, the victim accused the constable of raping her on false pretext of marriage for last two years. The accused was identified as Bharat Mallick of Balipadar area.
As per the victim’s allegation, Mallik first abducted her and took her to his sister’s house in Baliguda High School Colony November 28, 2016 where he kept her for some days and raped her.
Since then, he was continuously sexually assaulting the victim at different places in Kandhamal district as well as Bhubaneswar on the pretext of marriage.
It was when the accused planned to marry another girl; the girl mustered courage and filed an FIR against the constable August 7.
Meanwhile, the victim’s family has also alleged that the Baliguda Police was shielding the accused constable and is not acting upon an FIR.
However, Baliguda police said that the cop has been detained and an investigation is on.
