The condition of women in our country is not hidden from anyone. On one side we worship a girl and on the other hand, the fetus of the same girl is killed.
Even today, there are incidents of killing girl child, rape, tampering and dowry.
In cities and metros, you might have heard people talking about land rights but there is still a bad situation in rural areas. Here we will talk about a practice that is not less than any stigma in our society. This practice is associated with Shivpuri district of Madhya Pradesh.
This practice is known as Dhadi practice.
In this practice, girls and women are bought and sold. The girls purchased are not only physically but mentally exploited. In this practice, stamps from 10 rupees to 100 rupees are sold to girls. When the deal of purchase is settled, contract is contracted between Rs. 10 and Rs. 100 on stamps between male and female under contract.
The deal is settled between the selling woman and the purchasing man, in which the contract is written on a stamp paper. When this contract is terminated, then the woman goes to another man. But, if a man has paid more money for a woman, then she has to stay with him for a long time.
At the same time, if the amount is less then he will soon become free from that relation and go to another man. In this practice, the whole game varies with the stamp paper.
There have been several attempts to end this practice but it has not ended till date.
Today even though our society talks big things about women’s rights, but the practice of Dhadi is not less than any blot on our society. With time, people have become educated and modern, but, we still cannot provide protection to the women of our country.
