Bhubaneswar, Feb 10: The detailed project reports (DPR) prepared by five colleges in the state were approved by a two-member consultant team of Rastriya Uchhatar Siksha Abhiyan (RUSA) which visited the city Tuesday.
The DPRs prepared by Rama Devi Women’s College and Khalikote Autonomous College, Berhampur, have been approved and each of the colleges has been sanctioned Rs 55crore to commission their projects and infrastructural needs.
Similarly, funds to set up model colleges at Samanta Chandra Sekhar Autonomous College, Puri, Kuntala Kumari Sabat Degree College, Balasore and Government Degree College, Sundargarh have also been sanctioned by the Centre. Each college will get approximately `4 crore, according to sources.
The RUSA team has also sanctioned Rs 20 crore to the three existing universities in the state such as Utkal University, Sambalpur University and Berhampur University for developmental purposes under letter of intent (LoI).
“A two-member team of RUSA has reviewed the details of the DPRs and approved five of them. The colleges have been sanctioned funds to commission the proposed projects,” said a senior official of higher education department.
After the recent announcement of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to convert Gangadhar Meher Autonomous College, Sambalpur, into a university, the higher education department officials have also suggested the idea to the consultant team, according to sources. The officials have suggested inclusion of Ravenshaw University, Cuttack, in the scheme for provision of developmental funds.
“We have lobbied hard to convert GM College into a university which will be considered in the next academic year. We have also sought affiliation of Ravenshaw Univeristy,” said the official.
