Bhubaneswar: Four students who were seriously injured in clashes at BJB College here Tuesday were rushed to Capital hospital.
The four are reported to have been attacked by a rival group who were joined by 20 outsiders.
The victims were identified as Prateek Raj Panigrahi, Prateek Satpathy, Saishree Divya Lok Nayak, Khagendra Majhi, all final-year B.Com students.
The victims are final year students of the College who were attacked by a gang of around 25 men who arrived on bikes and assaulted the four with hockey sticks, bike keys, beer bottles and stones.
“We were taking examination on the last day of our three-year course, when the gang comprising 20 non-students attacked our four classmates,” said Laganjeet Patra, college student union leader. He said the gang was led by B.Com final year student Aditya Jha, first-year computer science student Mahesh Kumar Sahoo and second-year commerce student Istiyak Ali.
Jha had contested student union elections against him last October unsuccessfully. “Since then, he had been nursing a grudge against me and my supporters. Today’s assault was the culmination of their enmity with us,” Laganjeet added.
Badagada police have registered an FIR against the three students and named many others as accused.
Principal Md. Nawaz Hassan said the college administration had set up an enquiry committee and would take stringent action against culprits.
