Bhubaneswar, Feb 3: The higher education department Tuesday dropped 336 examiners belonging to 132 colleges in the state from the panel of examiners for the annual Plus Two examinations 2015 for their alleged goof-up in the evaluation of answer sheets last year.
The Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) that conducts the Plus Two examinations had drawn flak from all quarters for the flawed evaluation of answer sheets after the publication of the examination result.
“As many as 336 examiners have been dropped from the panel and the state government will take disciplinary action against them,” additional secretary of higher education department Durga Prasad Behera said.
He said the department had served show-cause notices on these teachers. Except one all others failed to comply with the notice following which the department took this action, Behera said, adding the list includes 13 government teachers including BJB College and Rama Devi College in Bhubaneswar, Government College in Phulbani and Dharanidhar College in Keonjhar.
“The remaining teachers are of non-government aided colleges,” he added. Sources said some of these examiners also served as chief examiners and deputy chief examiners.
Behera said while the government has decided to exclude them from the panel, the punitive actions may also include withholding their increments and other departmental benefits.
Thousands of students had complained of faulty evaluations and submitted applications for re-evaluation of their answer sheets.
Such was the goof-up that as soon as the government ordered a Plus Two instant examination it received over 10,000 forms from the students who were ready to reappear for the exam.
Following this goof-up by the authorities, the government planned to adopt online evaluation, but it has not been formally launched yet.
A senior official said, “It may take some time as we have to study all the technicalities and its feasibility before opting for online evaluation.”
