Bhawanipatna: The state government has granted Bhawanipatna-based Kalahandi University an affiliated institution status instead of unitary.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik approved a proposal of the higher education department in this regard Monday, said a release here Friday.
The Kalahandi Autonomous College was established in 1960. The state government had upgraded it to Kalahandi University in 2018.
Reportedly, the students of Kalahandi and Nuapada were depending upon Sambalpur University for their certificates and other exam-related matters. But after the university was declared as affiliated they can get their certificates from the university.
Notably, with the upgradation of Kalahandi University to the affiliated university, about 50 colleges in Kalahandi and Nuapada will come under its jurisdiction. Earlier these colleges were under Sambalpur University.
