Bhubaneswar: If things go well, the state government will appoint 1,840 doctors and medical officers, along with over 5,000 paramedical staff, soon, official sources said Monday. This was revealed during a high-level review meeting of the Health and Family Welfare department, chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, at Lok Seva Bhavan here.
Highlighting the government’s commitment to accessible healthcare, the CM instructed for faster filling of academic positions — including assistant professors, associate professors, and professors — in various medical colleges to strengthen medical education and support PG seat expansion. He also emphasised deploying more doctors in tribal and underdeveloped regions, where healthcare access remains a challenge. “A rationalisation exercise will be undertaken to ensure the optimal distribution of medical personnel throughout the state, particularly in tribal and underserved regions,” the CM said.
In addition, the government plans to establish integrated trauma care centres in accident-prone areas to improve emergency medical response. To attract medical professionals to remote postings, incentive packages for doctors working in hard-to-reach locations will be enhanced.
The Chief Minister directed secretaries to take appropriate and timely action on all matters related to recruitment, salary, and institutional development within the health sector. Among others, Health and Family Welfare Minister Mukesh Mahaling and Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja were present.
