Choudwar: Police busted an illegal gun-manufacturing unit at Matha Sahi in Shankarpur village here and arrested two persons in this regard Thursday.
Police said the accused identified as Jayant Ojha, a resident of Shankarpur village under this police limits and Ajay Behera, a resident of Belagacha village under Barang police limits, were arrested and produced in local court here.
Three country-made pistols and two single-barrel pistols, four bill hocks and as many swords, multiple units of wielding, grinding and metal polishing machines, and raw materials for bullet and gun manufacturing were seized from the establishment, Choudwar police said.
Briefing media, assistant commissioner of police (ACP) (zone I) Trinath Mishra, said they zeroed in on the criminals following reliable inputs about the illegal establishment that flourished at Matha Sahi in Shankarpur village. Acting on the tip-off, a special team of Choudwar police, led by inspector in-charge Rashmi Ranjan Mohapatra, raided the unit and arrested the duo.
“The unit had been operating from Jayant’s residence. Ajay would search for prospective buyers and cut deals while Jayant supervised the operations,” Mishra pointed out, adding a case (296/17) has been registered under Section 25(1) (a) of Arms Act. The duo had multiple criminal cases pending against them Barang and Choudwar police stations.
