MalkangirI: Governor Ganeshi Lal Monday visited Malkangiri as part of a four-day tour of southern Odisha. He was received by district administration and given a guard of honour at BSF camp at MV-3.
The Governor suggested that everyone should be provided basic facilities and urged the people to inform him about the problems they were facing. “No citizen should face discrimination, and that socio-economic development is everybody’s responsibility,” he said and stressed the need to promote agriculture so that farmers should get proper price for their crops.
“I am happy at seeing mobile phones in everyone’s hand which reminds me about former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee who had suggested that technology must reach every farmer in remote areas,” he added.
After reaching the BSF camp, Lal visited Korukunda block office where he held talks with elected representatives. The local representatives urged the Governor to help set up medical and engineering colleges, build an irrigation project on River Saptadhara River and a high frequency mobile phone tower in the district.
The legislators expressed the need to teach in 13 colloquial languages prevalent in the area for local students. After the meeting, an exhibition of products made by district Self Help Groups was arranged.
The Governor also paid a visit to the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya-1 in Malkangiri.
Former deputy speaker Prahalad Dora met Ganeshi Lal at the Circuit House and discussed with him the problems of the district.
Dora told the Governor that there were no local representatives to speak about problems as no elections have been held in the last two years in Chitrakonda block. He urged the Governor to open paddy yards in all panchayats, as that will enable farmers to sell their paddy.
Dora also spoke about health services in the district and told the Governor that the Chitakonda and Mathili Community Health Centres have been upgraded to sub-divisional level, but they were not functional.
He also urged the Governor to appoint doctors, pharmacists and nurses at these hospitals.
