Bhubaneswar: As the blame game and political bickering on the issue of alleged sexual assault of minor girls at a shelter home in Beltikiri area in Dhenkanal district run by NGO Good News India are rife, the state’s Women and Child Development Minister Prafulla Samal is now batting for changes in the Juvenile Justice Act.
When asked about the attack, the minister said, “People should see how the state government is monitoring the child care institutions as per the provisions of the Juvenile Justice (JJ) Act. The law has some limitations which need amendments. Judicial experts and social activists should speak on the issue. We will discuss it.”
Talking about the action the state has been contemplating on the issue, Samal said, “We have instructed the collectors to seal the shelter homes which do not abide by the JJ Act and do not have adequate approval and registration. They have been asked to act against the culprits of such organisations as per the provisions of the JJ Act.”
Meanwhile, political parties are leaving no stone unturned to rake up the issue of alleged sexual harassment of minor girls at Beltikiri shelter home in Dhenkanal and trying to corner the government over the whole issue.
