Bonai: A hardcore Maoist Friday surrendered before the additional superintendent of police (Bonai) in Sundargarh district.
ASP Prasant Kumar Jena revealed this before media at a press meet. The ultra was identified as Dharam Singh alias Dharamjeet of Karada village under Chandiposh police limits.
Jena claimed although Singh had left the Maoist outfit long back, he lived outside the state and did petty jobs until he decided to surrender before the police.
Jena welcomed Singh’s move and assured to help him in all possible manners to join the mainstream of the society.
According to police, Singh joined the Maoist organisation in 2008 under the guidance of Chotanagpur zonal committee (Maoist) commander Sameer alias Nuas Khalkho.
Initially, he joined as a militia and later went on to train fresh recruits. He was trained in spreading landmines and making bombs.
The ultra was involved in many criminal activities like attack on Banki range forest beat house, murder of three persons at Topadihi village and loot of Rs 49 lakh. After working for two years, he decided to quit the Maoist group in 2010 and fled to Punjab.
After living there for seven years, he returned to his village and surrendered before Chandiposh police. Compensation would be provided to him under government norms, Jena said. PNN
