Bhubaneswar: A team of Government Railway Police (GRP) officials from Haridwar was in Puri Tuesday to seek the remand of Ramachandran Subhash, the main accused in the serial train coach burning incident at Puri railway station, in connection with a similar case in the holy city in Uttarakhand November 4.
The official heading the three-member GRP team from Haridwar said they would file a petition in the court of Puri sub-divisional judicial magistrate (SDJM) in a day or two praying for the remand of Subhash. An empty coach of Delhi-Rishikesh passenger train was set ablaze at Haridwar station November 4.
Seven empty coaches of three trains were set ablaze at Puri railway station November 12, a case for which Subhash was arrested. There was also a report of empty train coaches being set ablaze at Kharagpur railway station the same day. Subhash had confessed to the investigating team of GRP at Puri earlier that he was involved in the Haridwar incident. No casualty was reported in the train blaze incidents.
Meanwhile, the SDJM court allowed the visiting GRP team from Haridwar to record the statement of Subhash under Section 161 of CrPC.
The Puri serial train blaze incident is currently being investigated by National Investigation Agency (NIA). Subhash, who has already been interrogated by NIA officials, was sent back to jail Tuesday after his three-day remand ended. Khurda Road GRP, meanwhile, applied for a 10-day remand for Subhash in the SDJM court.
