HC grants conditional bail to TMC MP Tapas Pal

Cuttack: The Orissa High court Thursday granted conditional bail to Trinamool Congress MP Tapas Pal arrested by the CBI December 30, 2016 in connection with Rose Valley Chit Fund scam.
Justice JP Das granted bail to Pal and directed the TMC MP to deposit Rs 1 crore with the bank, two sureties of Rs 2 lakh each and surrender his passport to the investigating officer.
The judge also directed Pal to cooperate with the investigating agency as and when required in connection with the case.
The CBI had arrested the actor-turned-politician from Kolkata December 30, 2016 for his alleged involvement in Rose Valley Chit Fund Group scam which had duped hundreds of crore of money from the gullible investors in Orissa and West Bengal.
The CBI had also arrested another TMC MP Sudip Bandyopadhyay for his involvement in the multi-crore rupees chit fund scam January 3 last year and both Bandopadhaya and Pal were interrogated by the CBI face to face while they were taken on remand in connection with the chit fund scam case.
Justice JP Das, however, granted bail to Bandopadhyay May 19 last year on condition that he will surrender his passport, deposit of Rs 25 lakh with any nationalised bank, the receipt of which will be submitted to the trial court and two sureties of Rs  50,000 each.
The CBI had already filed chargesheets against these two TMC MPs in connection with their alleged involvement in the Rose Valley chit fund scam.
