Cuttack, July 4: The Orissa High Court Monday granted interim protection to renowned industrialist Trailokya Mishra, his son Sabyasachi Mishra and wife Ashamanjari against arrests in connection with dowry torture case filed by his daughter-in-law Lopamudra Mishra.
Hearing the anticipatory bail petitions filed by the trio, a single judge bench of Sanjay Kumar Mishra granted them interim protection from arrests till July 29. The court has also directed the police to submit the case diary before July 29.
Mishra had moved the HC June 15 seeking bail for himself, his son Sabyasachi and wife Ashamanjari in the dowry torture case filed by his daughter-in-law Lopamudra-wife of Sabyasachi.
Their bail applications were filed by their counsel Siddheswar Mohanty in the HC.
Lopamudra had lodged a complaint with Mahila Police in Bhubaneswar May 10 this year (vide case no. 117/2016) alleging that she was subjected to dowry torture by her husband and in-laws.
Since no action was taken by the police even after a month of her lodging the complaint with the police, she revealed her story of torture before the media.
The estranged couple had got married January 27, 2006. They had visited California after some days of their marriage. Lopamudra had alleged that her husband had proposed to her for wife-swapping when they were on a visit to a foreign country. Sabyasachi even tried to kill her when the latter disagreed to his proposal, the complainant said.
Lopamudra June 26 lodged a complaint with Badagada police stating she has been receiving threats to her life on Facebook and WhatsApp.
Earlier, she had lodged a complaint with the same police station June 15 that some unidentified youths June 14 night had barged into the Tankapani Road residence of her parents where she is currently residing and had threatened to kill her and kidnap her son.
Since the Mishras remained untraceable the commissionerate police issued ‘lookout’ against them in June 27.
Apprehending that they are planning to flee abroad the commissionerate police issued ‘lookout circular’ to all airports in the country with directions to put it up at international airports.
Notably, the police June 17 had pasted a notice at the house of Trailokyanath Mishra asking him, his son Sabyasachi Mishra and wife Ashamanjari to appear at the Mahila police station on or before June 22 to record their statements in connection with the dowry torture case lodged by his daughter-in-law Lopamudra.
Commissionerate police had claimed that despite best of its efforts it could not contact them nor could ascertain their whereabouts and had to paste the notice at Plot No. 191, Unit III (Trailokya Mishra’s residence) under Kharavelnagar police limits asking them to appear at the Mahila police station here and record their statements. Police had said the notice was part of the process of its investigations.
