Cuttack, August 22: The Orissa High Court recently has issued several directions to the authorities concerned on a public interest litigation (PIL) in connection with the civic issues of the city.
A division bench comprising Justices Indrajit Mohanty and Subhash Chandra Parija Friday sought a detailed report from the district administration and the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) on the construction of drainage and sewerage projects in the city with financial aid from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
The bench expressed concern over encroachment of roads at Mahanadi Vihar in the city and directed the commissionerate police (CP) to raze all illegal structures for better management of traffic.
The HC ticked off Cuttack deputy commissioner of police and the Sadar tehsildar for the delay in construction of a boundary wall of Ravenshaw Collegiate School. The court also threatened to initiate contempt proceedings against the two officials if the construction of the boundary wall is not commenced within a week. Earlier, the court had directed the CP and Sadar tehsil to build the boundary wall.
The bench also sought a report from the civic body regarding steps taken to release rainwater from low-lying areas of the city. Earlier, the bench had directed the CMC to establish a toll-free control room for speedy release of rainwater from the city. It had also advised the municipal corporation to make residents aware of the control room through advertisement in media.
