Jaleswar: With healthcare in Jaleswar constituency of Balasore in a shambles, Congress alleged that all hospitals have virtually become paralysed and held the local legislator responsible for the ailing state of health sector in the region.
There are 12 primary health centres, a CHC and a referral hospital in the region. The CHC at Hatigad is now managed by only two doctors against the requirement of five doctors.
Congress leaders like Sudarshan Das, Sunil Kumar Parida, Sheikh Farid Ahmmed, Girija Shankar Das, Padmalochan Behera, Bijay Pradhan, Jagdish Chandra Nandi addressed a presser on the miserable healthcare scenario in Jaleswar.
They pointed out that under this CHC, 10 PHCs are functioning at Sikharpur, Laxmannath, Naphe, Khuad, Pachimabard, Jamalpur, Gopimohanpur, Olmara, Salabani and Jaleswar.
“No MBBS doctors are engaged at these PHCs, particularly at Bhelora and Silang. Sadly, most of these health centres were virtually handed over to pharmacists,” they lamented.
They added that Niramaya centres have stopped, while free medicines were not available to patients. “Even in the health centre at the MLA’s village ,” they alleged.
Similar is the condition of GK Bhattar Hospital at Jaleswar where only three doctors work against the requirement of seven doctors, they added.
After retirement of staff nurses, no new staff are appointed in their posts, they rued. “Incompetency of the local MLA is responsible for such miserable state of health sector in Jaleswar,” Congress leaders observed.
