Bhubaneswar: Odisha is witnessing heavy to very heavy rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning, a pattern expected to persist until September 27, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
Sunday, the Capital recorded 13.4 mm of rainfall, reflecting the region’s ongoing intense weather conditions.
The India Meteorological Department attributed the rainfall to multiple active weather systems over the Bay of Bengal.
An upper-air cyclonic circulation over the north Andaman Sea and adjoining Myanmar coast, extending up to 5.8 km above sea level, is influencing weather patterns and is expected to trigger the formation of a low-pressure area over the north Bay of Bengal within the next 24 hours.

Another low-pressure system is expected to form around September 25 over the east-central and adjoining north Bay of Bengal.
Moving west-northwest, it could intensify into a depression by September 26 and cross the South Odisha–North Andhra Pradesh coasts around September 27.
Authorities have urged residents to stay alert, warning that heavy rains may lead to waterlogging, disruptions, and power outages.
Fishermen have been advised against venturing into the deep sea amid rough weather conditions. The IMD has issued a yellow warning for Monday, predicting heavy rain and thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph.
These conditions are expected at one or two places across districts, including Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Angul, Cuttack, Khurda, Puri, and Ganjam, as well as in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Nayagarh, Gajapati, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Subarnapur, Boudh, Nuapada, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri.
