Bhubaneswar: The regional office of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) Sunday said that the southwest monsoon has covered the entire Odisha.
At the same time, the MeT has forecast heavy rainfall in different parts of the state in the next two days, while moderate to light rains are in various parts of the state for next few days.
Issuing a Yellow Warning (be updated) for the next two days, the IMD said, “Heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj Monday.”
It added that heavy rains could also be witnessed in the other parts of the state Monday. According to the evening bulletin of the IMD, heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Cuttack, Bhadrak, Balasore, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Puri and Khurda Monday.”
At the same time, light to moderate rains are likely in most of the districts in North and South Odisha. Thunderstorms may also occur, the department said.
The IMD said that Sundargarh, Jharsuguda,Keonjhar, Sambalpur and Deogarh districts may witness heavy to very heavy rainfall Tuesday, while districts like Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Boudh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Bargarh and Jajpur may see heavy rainfall. Light to moderate rains are likely to continue in many places of Odisha Tuesday.
The department, however, has not issued any warning regarding heavy rains for Wednesday and Thursday. The IMD also said that as far as the state capital is concerned, there may be few spells of rains and thunderstorms Monday. The maximum temperature could go up to 33°C. It has also issued an advisory for the fishermen not to venture into deep sea till June 15.
The bulletin said that the highest rainfall in the last 24 hours was reported in Angul district, which saw 98mm rainfall. It was followed by Kenonjhar which saw 81.2 mm rainfall during the period.
